Child's handwriting preserved in hand embroidery on a dark fabric hoop

Turn Your Child's Artwork Into a Hand-Embroidered Hoop

The wobbly lines, the wildly creative colors, the proportions that make no earthly sense — stitched exactly as-is into a keepsake you can hang on the wall and keep for decades.

Kids make a staggering amount of art. It arrives daily, slightly damp, occasionally on the back of an important document. You can't keep all of it — the fridge has limits, the recycling bin does not. But there's usually one piece you can't quite bring yourself to throw away.

That's the one we stitch.

The whole magic of a child's drawing is that it's theirs. The shaky lines, the seven-fingered families, the cat that is technically a blob — I don't clean it up or make it "better." A four-year-old's masterpiece should look like a four-year-old's masterpiece, just now in a form that won't fade, tear, or get mistaken for scrap paper.

It also works beautifully for handwriting — a child's wobbly "I love you" or a backwards signature is pure gold in thread.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of drawings work best?
Almost anything works — simple shapes and bold lines stitch up especially cleanly, but busier drawings with lots of detail can also be beautiful. Single figures, family portraits, animals, handwriting, or abstract squiggles are all fair game. If in doubt, send it.
Do you preserve the wobbly lines exactly as drawn?
Yes — that's the whole point. I stitch what I see. The imperfections, the shaky lines, the backwards letters — all of it. I'm not here to improve on a child's art, I'm here to immortalize it.
How do I send the artwork to you?
Snap a clear, flat photo in good natural light — lay the drawing on the floor or a table, stand directly above it, and make sure the whole piece is in frame and in focus. No scanner needed, though a scan works great too. If you have a few contenders, send them all and we'll choose together.
Does the original drawing need to be in good condition?
Not at all. Faded, crumpled, or slightly juice-stained is completely fine. It's the artwork I'm working from, not its condition. The drawing itself doesn't need to be mailed.
Is this a good gift idea?
It's one of the most meaningful gifts you can give a parent or grandparent. Birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas — a stitched hoop of a grandchild's drawing tends to be the gift that gets hung immediately and never taken down.
